Dubai Strategic Plan 2015: Dubai where the future begins

His highness Sheikh Mohammad announced in an interesting presentation yesterday the
" Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 " that is parallel to the overall UAE strategic plan by his Highness Sheikh Khalifa .

Few highlights:

1. Expected increase in the growth rate by 11% by 2015
"raise per capita GDP to $44,000 from $31,140 now by creating 882,000 new jobs, bringing total employment to 1.73 million"

2. Increase in the private sector

3. It will focus on the key dynamic economic sectors that contributed to the 13% growth rate.
He mentioned the fact that those sectors are not affected by the fluctuation of oil prices which gives it more stability.

4. " The plan, divided into five sections - Economic Development, Social Development, Infrastructure, Land and Environment, Safety, Security and Justice and Public Sector Excellence - also addresses the major public concerns of traffic, rent, inflation, lack of regulatory framework and labour disputes that have influenced the everyday lives of the UAE residents over the past two years."

5. He focused on the economic diversification as an important tool.

6. The plan also calls for enhanced accountability among government officials and the development of UAE national human capital that will ensure the success of the plan.

7. A common framework for the integrated governmental entities that focuses on: economic development; social development; infrastructure, land and environment; security, justice and safety and, public sector excellence.

8. The importance of having an effective social infrastructure through:

Preserve National Identity. This will be achieved by revising policies and procedures to ensure demographic balance; increasing the sense of belonging and the awareness of local culture by updating educational curriculum and developing the capabilities of national teaching resources; ensuring comprehensive cultural content through relevant activities and channels including media, arts and literature; and increasing focus on the Arabic language as it encompasses national history and culture,"

A Last Dot:

  • "The sky doesn’t rain gold and silver… we must get it from the Earth”.

  • "God has showered us with countless blessings. One word best describes the majority of these blessings: security."

  • "All of man’s efforts are carried out in the belief that they will bring security: personal security, psychological security, economic security, social security and political security"

  • “Without security life becomes a living hell, and talk of development, quality, excellence and success becomes worthless, idle chatter. "
“The grace of God coupled with effective policies and dedicated people, have made the UAE one of the safest countries in the world and Dubai one of the safest cities."
“Our Strategic Plan is designed to ensure that the security, justice and safety sector is able to keep up with the economic and social growth. "
“I depend on God first and foremost, and then on the brain and brawn of the children of this nation, to them I entrust much and from them I expect much."
“In the past I told you that we will succeed, and we did. And today I tell you that I see further success in the future. We will write new pages in our nation’s epic of glory, pride and achievement."
“We will present to our world proof that we are capable of action, capable of imposing our presence, and capable of communicating, interacting, co-existing, and co-operating with all other cultures and civilisations.”

I believe sincerity should be the framework for any achievement. Further, in the context of a Nation's development- sincerity is a must from authority and non-authority. I dislike it when people keep criticizing a system *I include myself* yet they have no worth mentioning CONTRIBUTION. I respect that you have not sounded extra biased to your country and that bright achievement is based on collective commitment. Thanks for the efforts. May ALLAH swt remind us that the journey of any success is just like a boat, and that all small and large contributions result in the success of the journey. May UAE citizens realize the hard efforts and learn to depend on themselves, and act less passive. Im proud to be part of UAE's success, wishing that we overlook negativity and take the challenge.

I am optimistic & also afraid at the same time. Optimistic because of Social Development being included in the plan. But afraid because the goal is to increase per capita income to US$ 44,000 from the current US$ 31,000.

Let's see how they balance social development with this increase in wealth. I hope this additional wealth generated reaches & benefits the whole society. May Allah help our government achieve its goals of raising the social development of people.

Makes me anxious too - I mean so much has changed the past 10 years in the UAE.

I've begun to realize with growth comes all sorts of changes and new peoples.

This past Christmas I was visiting my folks in Sharjah. Whilst attending Christmas mass at the church (the church I was baptized as an infant) a supposed "church leader" inquires, if I am a member and would need a membership card to prove so, else I couldn't take the holy communion? I didn't have a membership card (no one is required to carry one). He wouldn't believe I am a member of this church and was baptized at this very church. Hence wasn't given a communion on Christmas Eve.

What depressed me was the fact that there were scores of new people who just moved into the UAE and they got to attend the mass, whilst I was sent away.

This was just one incident, there were a few more which made me think, yes economic growth is fantastic for the UAE - but will we loose the very soul i.e. the identity in this process? I mean there are fewer Emiratis compared to expats, most of the native expats have moved on or moved out - and the newer ones who move there seem pretty oblivious to UAE as a country, its ways of life - except it's a good place to make monies.

Perhaps I am just anxious and thinking way too much.....

Anyhow, I shall always wish the best for a successful future. Sorry if I took too much space : )

i understand your point Rosh.. its true that the change we are facing is basically like a book.. or probably a magazine.. you know from the title.. and you sort of expect the articles.. but you don't really know the content so well.. its only when you flip the first page.. you'd get to see the second page.. and so is our change.. days only would tell us what to expect..

Thanks Dots. I do believe with strong & humble leadership from His highness Sheikh Mohammad - Dubai and all of UAE will be successful, yet have it's roots, security and identity intact.
