bits & pieces from here & there..
Why would parents drag their children and blankets and queue as early as Friday Midnight to get the admission form for a school to enroll their kids in KG1 !!!??? Is the school (My Own English School) THAT good? or is it because they have a "first in first served" system? or what exactly ...!!
Children, all aged four, were there with their parents, numbering about 300, to collect admission forms for kindergarten (KG1). The number of admission forms to be distributed by the school on Oud Metha Road was 600 costing Dh25 each

“There were already more than 50 people in the queue when we reached at 1am. Husbands and wives were taking turns as one would stand in the queue, while the other attended to their little ones who slept in the car. By eight in the morning, there were over 600 people thronging the gates of the school, and all this trouble was for nothing,” added the father of one child from Kerala, India.

Now the funny part is that those who were available on FRIDAY AFTERNOON where given the privilege of having TOKENS .. of course that means they are served first ! yipee .. their 4 year old child will be enrolled in kG1 !!
its worth mentioning that this school is one of the many schools & university that are managed by the "educational tycoon" (and that is my own OPINION) : GEMS !!!!! what a rare commodity they are !!! (yes i was very sarcastic here... so for those who are willing to explain what is so special about this school please do so )
Okay done with schools..
Iran's Surprise:
So it was announced earlier that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is going to announce a "surprise" to his nation (and probably the world) today... so i was excited .. and waited... and waited..and waited.. lol okay okay there u go...
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday pledged to maintain the country's nuclear work, but said he wanted to remain within international rules. He added tha it would be "humiliation" for Iran to abandon its nuclear programme and that UN-imposed sanctions would not harm the country. Iran plans to install thousands of centrifuges and start "industrial-scale" enrichment. It
already runs two cascades of 164 centrifuges at the Natanz underground plant.

So now we have to wait for George Bush's usual press conference...!!!!!
At the meantime..the UN have installed their "surveillance cameras" in Natanz... !! GulfNews
Enough Politics right?
Tug of War between the two "competitors" :
Etisalat's competitive responses... and Du's "hiccups"
Du Finally launches its service today (i wonder was it under the promised timing or not) anyways.. ever since Du was announced to be the competitor.. we have seen many responses from Etisalat in trying to provide competitive rates and services etc etc... meanwhile.. Osman Sultan, Du's CEO have announced that it is likely to expect "hiccups" in the service.. by that they are being "realistic" as he said..
Although he have also mentioned that both companies
which will operate without any interconnection or site sharing with etisalat's network, at least in the beginning.
Hmm... i wonder i wonder.. ! anyways.. that is all with Du & Etisalat's tug of war...
A Last Dot:
Didn't i decide to cut my "news consumption"... why haven't i !!!

1. Du and Etisalat, you know the saying , same **** different ******* !!! both of them are competing on who will suck more life out of the users. 181 used to be free, then 30F, then 100F. what is next ?
2. Iran : built your nuclear reactor, and with your resources, you will built a ready to explode anytime Bomb that will take out 70% of your country, and 70% of neighbouring countries, and the remaining percentages will have 6 hands, 8 minds, and 12 eyes to compensate the dead.
3. The schools: within the next few years, we will become the 50th state of India. (I do not know how many are there now). I am already shaking my head to one side, the other one is missing.
I have nothing against indians actually, nice people, too nice, that people take advantage of it.
on the other hand, those people worry about their children's education, the way we all should, if you think KG1 is too early, well you might be wrong, it is the right time to think about their education. UNLESS there were issues of money ( cheaper than other schools), or location (you know how crazy it is to drive in Dubai)

Another reason why I hate the modern educational system. Today, our schools are more concerned about making money instead of doing their job. Just look at the dirhams 25 fee charged for the application form !!
If I was in place of the parents who spent the whole night outside the school, I would really have preferred to teach my kids myself.
annonymous:
Omg it pissed me off so much when i dialed 181 and that lady spent GOD KNOWS how many seconds talking about the fees !!
Iran: i so liked "the use of numbers" in that comment.. added "value" to it .. lol.. it makes so much sense though
Schools: lol @ shaking my head to one side.. "identity identity" one day we'd wonder what was this word .. actually i hope not..
i am not saying ineh they shouldn't worry bel 3aks.. we all should and honestly if i ever had kids i'd want to put them in a good school from KG1 BUT BUT BUT my point was WHY THIS SCHOOOL arent there any other schools in the UAE that could satisfy their requirments in proper education for their kids?
and thanks for the comments :)
DG: i don't think you'd be in their place to start with. Reminds me of the homeschooling discussion we had once..
To be honest Dots, I don't like the current Iranian leadership. The guy is a lunatic. I am very very anxious on the designs he has on the UAE - and I am certain he has designs on the UAE.
If most of the Arab world feels the US is bad or evil - then in reality Iran is exactly the same. And if I had to choose between the two - I did choose the US. Not because I live in New York and see how Americans work - but for the most part, they are far less evil and to be fair, do have positive intentions for whomever they intent to "control" or conquer.
Let me correct that - I do not think the US is evil - perhaps Cocky and arrogant. But today's Iran, sadly has a lot of evil intentions. Just look at the UAE islands issue.
re: Our Own High School - most Indian parents believe, rather religiously - a good school education matters more than anything. More than god given talent - say for music, for poetry - sports - more than everything.
I never understood this "perception" of most Indians. They seem to given so much importance to school education - and seem to neglect everything else - something I totally disagree with.
I have Indian friends, and recall how their parents put them thru "torture" for good grades in school - when infact a few of them had god given talent for painting, writing - sports.
Anyhow my two cents. Most Indians are probably going to repeat the same explanation if they read this i.e education is most important, Indians are all doctors and into engineering - they conquered silicon valley - yada yada yada - yawn...
Oh btw I think Our Own is just plain average, nothing great. I think it's an average torture camp for kids : )
